◎ HYBRID BEAUTY ◎

Hybrid beauty refers to products that combine skincare and makeup functions, enabling both skin care and color enhancement within a single product without the traditional boundary between skincare and makeup. By merging two previously distinct formulations—skincare and makeup—hybrid beauty products can deliver ideal makeup effects and have emerged as a prominent global beauty trend. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, beauty minimalism has gained popularity, as more individuals seek to simplify multi-step beauty routines while achieving efficient skin care. At the same time, there is growing demand for products that simultaneously promote both skin health and aesthetic enhancement, leading to increasing interest in hybrid beauty.

In particular, hybrid beauty products often contain ingredients effective for improving skin tone, such as vitamin C and glutathione, as well as niacinamide and centella asiatica extract, which are beneficial for hydration and skin soothing. As a result, these products not only provide the radiant and dewy glow traditionally associated with makeup but also offer skincare benefits—such as hydration and brightening—that were previously exclusive to skincare products. This allows users to achieve both cosmetic and skincare effects simultaneously through makeup alone.

EFFECT & CAUTION

During winter, the skin’s moisture content can decrease by as much as 10%, resulting in significantly drier skin. To compensate for rough and dehydrated skin, many people increase the number of skincare steps. However, applying multiple skincare products can sometimes cause pilling, making it difficult for makeup to adhere properly. In such cases, hybrid products can be particularly effective.

Using hybrid products—such as foundations and cushion compacts that incorporate functional benefits like skin barrier strengthening, moisturization, brightening, and elasticity improvement, vegan-based blushers, and highly hydrating makeup fixers—can help makeup adhere smoothly and evenly. This results in a lightweight, uniform application and helps maintain a radiant skin appearance throughout the day.

However, even though hybrid makeup products contain a substantial amount of skincare ingredients, it is still difficult for a single makeup product to fully replace all skincare steps. Therefore, for dry and dehydrated skin, it is recommended to use additional moisturizing products or skincare supplements to support and enhance overall skin care (Woman Chosun, December 2025).

◎ Psychology of Makeup ◎

We are now living in an era of self-expression. People actively express their individuality through clothing, hairstyles, various accessories, and perfumes in order to distinguish themselves from others. In this context, the meaning of makeup can also be approached from a psychological perspective. Applying powder to brighten dull skin, using lipstick and blush to add vitality to the lips and cheeks, and applying various eyeshadows to enhance eye definition are not merely actions to conceal skin imperfections. Rather, makeup plays an important role in boosting self-confidence and making individuals perceive themselves as more attractive.

In its dictionary definition, makeup refers to the act of using cosmetic products to decorate or alter parts of the face and body. This practice serves not only functional purposes, such as protecting the skin and providing moisture, but also fulfills aesthetic expression, personal identity expression, and social signaling functions. Makeup is used as a means of enhancing natural beauty or emphasizing a specific image, and its forms and purposes vary depending on the era and cultural context. In modern society, makeup also plays a crucial role as a tool for enhancing individual confidence, facilitating self-expression, and conveying a professional image.

Furthermore, the variety of makeup products has expanded significantly. In addition to basic items such as foundation, lipstick, eyeshadow, blush, and mascara, newer products—including BB creams, cushion compacts, concealers, and lip tints—have been introduced, providing consumers with a wider range of choices. Makeup not only enhances physical appearance but also contributes to psychological stability and increased feelings of happiness. For example, studies have reported cases where individuals experienced increased confidence after transforming their appearance through makeup, which in turn positively influenced their satisfaction in daily life and professional environments. Thus, makeup has evolved beyond a simple tool for enhancing aesthetic value and has become an important cultural practice that expresses personal identity and emotions. In modern society, an increasing number of people use makeup as a medium for self-expression (Woman Chosun, December 2025).

◎ The Proper Shampoo Routine for Smooth, Flowing Hair ◎

그림3.jpg

Here are six essential steps for achieving smooth, flowing hair through proper shampooing.

1. Brush Thoroughly Before Shampooing:   Brushing not only provides a gentle scalp massage but also improves blood circulation in the scalp, which helps promote the removal of waste and impurities.

2. Rinse with Warm Water Before Shampooing:   Wetting the hair in advance with lukewarm water helps the shampoo lather more easily and improves cleansing effectiveness. It also opens the scalp pores and loosens impurities attached to the surface, allowing for a cleaner and more thorough wash.

3. Create Sufficient Lather:   Apply shampoo to both palms and first wash the front hairline, then the crown, and finally the back of the head. Begin lathering at the front area of the scalp, which is easier to reach, and gradually move toward the back. Once enough foam is created, distribute it to the middle and ends of the hair to complete the shampooing process.

4. Shampoo in Two Stages:   In the first stage, use a mild moisturizing shampoo to gently remove dirt and impurities from the hair. In the second stage, choose a shampoo suitable for your scalp type and carefully cleanse the scalp while applying gentle pressure massage.

5. Massage Using Your Fingertips:   Use your fingertips—not your fingernails—to gently massage the scalp, including the crown and the back of the neck. This reduces scalp irritation and ensures a more thorough and comfortable cleansing.

6. Use Treatment as an Essential Step:   If you want to make dry and rough hair smooth, using a treatment is essential. Treatment products act as nutrients that supply beneficial ingredients to the hair. If your hair tends to be oily, apply the treatment mainly to the ends of the hair (Woman Chosun, November 2025).

◎ Horizontal Muscles, Not Vertical Ones ◎

Horizontal muscles also require proper care. When people think about muscle management, they often focus only on vertically oriented muscles such as the abdominal or back muscles. However, there are other muscles that deserve even greater attention—four key horizontal muscles that run across the body and help it resist gravity. Although they are not easily visible, they weaken easily, and when they collapse, they can affect the entire body, from facial contours and breathing to pelvic health and foot balance. Let us examine these muscles one by one.

그림4.jpg

The first is the muscle beneath the chin. This muscle assists with swallowing and speaking, and also plays a role in maintaining facial contours and respiratory health. When it weakens, the jawline may sag, leading to a double chin, and in severe cases, it may contribute to snoring or sleep apnea.

The second is the diaphragm. Located between the lungs and abdominal organs, it is the primary muscle responsible for controlling inhalation and exhalation. A healthy diaphragm improves breathing efficiency, reduces fatigue, and contributes to better blood circulation and postural stability. However, when weakened, breathing becomes shallow and chest-focused, placing excessive strain on the neck and shoulder muscles and leading to chronic tension and fatigue.

The third is the pelvic floor muscle, which forms the foundation of the lower core and supports the bladder, uterus, and intestines. When weakened, it can lead to urinary incontinence, lower back pain, and sexual dysfunction, while also affecting the shape of the lower abdomen and hip line.

The final muscle is the plantar muscle of the foot. This muscle forms the arch of the foot, helping distribute body weight and absorb shock. When weakened, it may result in flat feet, knee and pelvic pain, and leg misalignment. Since the feet serve as the body’s foundational support, the strength of this muscle significantly influences overall posture and spinal alignment.

By maintaining the health of these horizontal muscles, it is possible to preserve youthful facial contours, a slimmer waistline, stable posture, and comfortable breathing and walking, thereby ensuring overall body balance. If you have previously overlooked the importance and care of horizontal muscles, now is the time to pay attention to these small but essential muscles (Hyangjang, No. 669).
